Eucalyptus sideroxylon Australia's unique flora provides almost unlimited inspiration for the botanical artist.  Indeed, botanical illustration is strongly associated with Australia's discovery by Europeans and with its early colonial history.  Those early illustrations of Eucalypts, Banksias, Grevilleas and a wealth of tropical plants, although purely scientific in purpose, are now timeless icons valued for their cultural and artistic merits as well as for their scientific and historic relevance.

The forms, colours and tones of these plants reflect the Australian landscape and call out for continuous reinterpreation by the visual artist.  Katrine's paintings of archetypal gum leaves and flowers are particularly popular with international visitors who, perhaps more than locals, can see the way they capture a particularly Australian aesthetic.

This gallery provides a sample of Katrine's work with Australian native plants.
